You will analyse the media language and media representation of the xxx issue of the Big Issue “In Bob we trust” .
To what extent does the Magazine diverge from mainstream/rightwing depictions of the poor/homeless.
Why is the magazines remit an important factor in the way the magazine represents homelessness?
Discuss the social and political context of homelessness…Discuss the impact of homelessness in Britain today from your research.
The Big issue is a magazine designed for the homeless, this is an individual charity who offers those suffering of poverty to have the opportunity of gaining their own money. The magazine original cost is £1.25 being sold at £2.50 thus means each homeless are working instead of begging.
Bob helped James change his live as he used to struggle with his addiction,Bob symbolises "hope" as he helped James turn his life around. His life as an heroin addict was hard as he was very self -centred and narrow minded,James allowed Bob into his life as the cat was starving and injured. The cats treatment cost £28 which was the "last amount of money"he had,"I didn't feel it was too much to help something in need. This was the beginning of him becoming a better person as he had remorse over the cat thus decided to look after him.The sans serif writing "in bob we trust" is in large capital letters and is yellow to stand out from the background making the main cover line stand out .The tag line "hand up not hand out" this portrays they help the poor by giving them a job to make their lives better, they don't give them money for free but they make them work for it.The use of the lexi "up" conveys they're at a low point in life and are helping them get out of it.
The cat was there for him like James was for Bob,"in Bob we trust" this has the connotations of Bob being God as he is looked up to and everyone respects him as though he is a sign of having faith and hope.

People were very fascinated in James story as how the cat was able to help him turn his life around, now having a best seller and a film which would have helped James get out of his shelter.Due to having Bob the cat with him he now was able to sell more of the magazines as people wanted to speak to him and that he was no longer "invisible".
The colours of the poster are blues and whites reflecting on the cold atmosphere, the dark blue sky conveys it is nighttime and that the homeless or less fortunate are going to be in the cold at night thus, can lead them to becoming seriously ill or death. The snow in the sky and the lights create a sense of magic and christmas which juxtaposes with the message. The theme looks very christmassy with the snow and the scarf wrapped round Bobs neck, like he is a snowman. The imagery of it being winter and christmas creates a sense of fun being surrounded by friends and family on the annual festival. However, the street cat aware the viewer that not everybody is going to be in the warmth and safe. The concern of the issue is that people and animals like Bob have nobody. The angle of the camera is at eye level with his eyes looking straight into the viewer thus r creating a sense of sympathy for the isolated pet as this is the main focus, the depth of field has the background blurred to make the cat stand out more in the poster. This is a real imagery as it reflects on how the homeless are going to be in the cold at night, however, the photo is not as gruesome and upsetting as the actual situation.
Due to the representation of poverty and underclass are often portrayed negatively in the media,Shildrick and Macdonald suggest that the poor are underserving of sympathy especially Romanians homeless .This makes it hard for a person like James to get out of poverty and addiction as they lack hope.
The left wing politics support the poor as they believe in social equality and egalitarianism unlike the right wing who opposes socialism and social democracy, having a political system based on a very powerful leader. There has been a increase in immigration and homelessness is slowly decreasing but the percentages are still very high , due people moving to England, for an example Romanians have had a dimmed view through the right wing as they believe they're taking from the state.
This poster tries to get others to help by buying the magazine, having the cat as the front cover allows others to feel sympathy and the publicity as the cat is known through the book and film. The poster allows the reader to see a positive review on the homeless as they're trying to get their life's together.
The impact of homelessness in Britain can led them to turn to drugs as they want a moment to escape their society. Those who are living on the streets are more likely to have long term physical health issues and mental health issues. This makes it very hard for them to get into,as only 6% of homeless get jobs .

Minecraft also has affected the games evolution by being linked to non profitable projects "UNs Block by Block project, encouraging communities around the world to redesign their neighbourhoods using minecraft.A foundation which turns neglected urban places into vibrant places, improving public safety, economic opportunity, access to clean water and sustainability, which gives them recognition for a good cause which could increase their audience as people who are interested in charity or non profitable companies may play the game.

Comparing the 1967 and 2016 versions of Walt Disney`s Jungle book (posters
and film trailers), using media language discuss how the representations of the characters have changed. You will need to explore the changes in social and cultural
contexts and impact
of technology as [art of your essay.
1967 poster is a cartoon picture mad by lithography this is aimed towards younger children as the bright bold colours stand out towards the audience ,whereas, in the 2016 poster CGI and a green is involved creating the image to look realistic which makes it more suitable for wider audience at a older age.One of the main visual difference is the newer poster is darker with muted colours showing the corrupted side of the film. The camera is behind the main character Mowgil while the animals are almost darker figures looking at the young boy, creating a more sinister approach.
In the newer version,no faces are shown creating more of a mysterious and dark atmosphere, the anonymity shows how technology has improved and that the audience is aimed at a older age, which could be because the children at 1967 would have now been adults. This allows them to watch it and also children. The animals are more realistic due to the CGI in the 2016 version thus can be seen as more scary,on the other hand , in the 1967 version it is more basic structures and shapes looking as though it is a colouring book which then refers to younger kids. The font in both of these are serif although the 1967 is larger than the 2017 and is thicker making it more appealing to younger kids,on the other hand, the newer version is yellow and a much smaller font which can be seen as happiness, energy and positivity but has contrast with the dull colours, reflecting the mystery.
Scarlett Johnson who plays Kaa the snake is a sly and suspicious character.Who voice is English which can reflect on stereotypical of being untrustworthy. The diegetic sound of the snake hissing is constant throughout the trailer as though she is trying to aware the audience that she is lurking around. The seductive and soothing voice ,however intensions are milieus and sinister. Her being a female tries to fulfil the roll of a innocent, motherly snake as she acknowledges the young bog is all alone and is searching for a parentally figure. The enigma in the trailer creates older audience to be entertained as it is unpredictable. The snake only appears in the middle of the trailer in dark and muted settings creating a alarming atmosphere which makes the audience believe she is an antagonist character. She is seen as being massive compared to Mowgil as the length of her is continuos looking suffocating. In the 1967 trailer the snake is a male Sterling Holloway. His animated character is mores of a comedically character who is dark grey and black, compared to the other brighter colours characters, which can be portrayed as representing her evil character. Kaa is seen hypnotising Mowgil in the trailer which shows how manipulative he is in the film against the vulnerable young boy.In the 1967 it is seen as being more obvious that he is a antagonist ,whereas, the newer version the character is more discrete thus makes it harder for the audience to analysis their intentions. The main change in this character is the gender, the change to a female voice allows the film to have more variation, furthermore her stealthy voice and elusive movements sure brings the more captivating and creepy movements of the movie.Additionally, Kaa being a female gives her more of an advantage of manipulating the boy as the isolated child seeks a "caring " female who can be seen as a motherly figure to the boy.
On the other hand, the character King Louie, who seems to some viewers to offer a racialized portrait of jazz culture that conflates 'swingers' (presumably African American jazz musicians) with monkeys. The lyrics "i wanna be like you" had deceptions of the representations of African Americans wanting to be civilised equals to the white man.Ironically,King Louie was represented through an African Americans accent however, the role was played by a Italian American,in the 1960s America was a segregated society where Black people were actively fighting for Civil rights to have equality. In the 2016 version King louie now has an new york 'gangster accent' which is seen as very intimidating towards the young boy Mowgli. Furthermore, the orang-utan appearance has changed (a non-native animal in India) ,although exaggerated his size to look larger like an orange version of king kong. This avoids the negative feedback on race,as the animal is unfamiliar .He looks more sinister in the 2016 than strange,as he is taken more seriously as he is more powerful.
Shere Khan appeared creeping in the 2016 trailer,as though he is scheming to catch his prey. The audience doesn't see his face but his paws creating suspense as you question what he is sneaking up on.He is identified as being dangerous as he chases after the young boy. This shows the audience he is an antagonist. The role is played by Idris Elba who is known to acting in "Luther" who is known for being involved in a dark and intimidating atmosphere. In 1967 George Sanders played Shere khan who has the accent of a upper class English accent and bass voice. The CGI has made this character more villainous as it is more realistic, the vicious fictional Bengal tiger is more scarier.
The american actor Bill Murray who plays Balloo,is a comedian and writer. He is previously known for playing in ghostbusters, dumber and dumber and Garfield having the representation of a laid back, gentle and clumsy characteristics. Balloo is a sloth bear who is native in india, which is portrayed as lazy and laid back which is seen at the end of the 2016 of him floating down the river. The relaxed animal is more complicated in the 2016 as he is more realistic due to the CGI .In the 2016 trailer he is seen scaring the animals off to protect Mowgli this shows he is protective other the young boy but has violent characteristic.Whereas,in the older version played by Phil Harris,a comedian, he is seen as being very energetic as he is dancing and singing. In this version you don't get t know as much about the character except a fun and silly animal.

You will create an essay on issue of the Big issue: Still at War. You will anaylyse the media language and media representations associated with the front cover.
As part of the essay you will need to discuss the social and politcal contexts which have lead to a rise in homelessness in overall and inparticular within the veteran community
You will also discuss how newspapers (right wing and Big Issue) vary in the way the represent homelessness. As part of your arguments you are required to use Gerbners theory
The big issue choose to speak about this issue because not a lot of people know the amount of veterans that end up homeless, they want to inform others about this problem. This was published on the 05 of November, released around remembrance day, highlighting the fact people who fought for our country are suffering and how they're ignored. This issue might be important for their audience because it makes more people be king and helpful to those who need it.The red poppy In the left corner is there to symbolise the blood that has been shed.
The big issue has created a newspaper for veterans with the main cover line being 'still at war' the sans serif writing is in large writing and capitals. However, the word "WAR" stands out due to it being larger compared to the rest of the text. The cover line makes the audience feel sympathy for the man as he isn't physically in the war but still feels as though he is fighting to have a home and security. The lexi "STILL" also stands out due to the black text box, heightening the fact he is still fighting and compares living in Britain as the same being in war.The smaller serif writing "lives, fighting for our future' which looks as though it could be apart of a confidential file this shows how mental illnesses can be very hidden, it also reflects on the privacy and secrecy about the knowledge of how veterans are homeless.
The mans face is almost camouflaged to the wall which refers to the war and being invisible, this links to him being on the streets not be acknowledged for the hard work and risks they have taken to then be homeless. The colour pop of the green helmet creates the ideology of war as the newspaper constantly reminds the viewer. The pop colour also empathised the risks and danger he put himself through. His emotions is hard to identify as you question how he is feeling this creates sympathy towards the man as him being grey can be seen as reflecting his mood "invisible".

The daily Express announced that 1 out of 10 homeless people are ex service and it can be due to PTSD,mental breakdowns and alcohol and drug addictions as they want to escape from society. Charity bosses say the problem has been made worse by cuts to the armed forces, which has led to almost 30,000 troops losing their jobs since 2010.“Soldiers are strong and asking for help felt like weakness. I refused to acknowledge my mental health issues and my life spiralled out of control. after feeling so powerful and respected in the military. The stress of the situation made my symptoms worse, the flashbacks and nightmares were worse and they became more frequent.
They're a right wing newspaper who believe servicemen should be given higher priority over homes and accommodations and laws should be changed to make it more legible so the council don't avoid the issue. They want the council to help veterans get housing. The 2012 armed forces and community covenant says local authorities 'should' rather than 'must' conveying they're not making it a priority.Furthermore, veterans are lower down in the table when looking for housing making it harder for them to get housing. Veterans are waiting for their benefit payments which takes a long period of time as they're unemployed.Marriages are decreasing and divorces are decreasing showing the broken down family structure and partnership can led them into being lonely having nobody to help them in their difficult situation.
Part (a)Radio 1 target audience is on the decline, discuss the reasons why audience numbers are dropping and the steps taken by the organisation to maintain (and or grow) its audience 600 words. Discuss the role of technology in maintaining its audience
The BBC radio 1 a British radio broadcasted internationally, which specialises in modern popular music and current chart hits throughout the day.Changing the genres of music after 7pm for those who may listen to a different range of music such as hip hop, rock, indie ect.
Radio 1 has unfortunately had a decline in audience numbers, this can be due to people no longer wanting to listen to live radio anymore, as the organisation has steps to maintain their growth. BBC’s Media Centre posted on 26 October 2017,In 2017 BBC radio 1 had an audience of 10.9m but has declined to 10.5m listeners this year. However, people are trying to but the blame on Nick Grimshaw as overall radio 1 extra was losing subscribers.
One reason why the numbers may have declined is people tend to not want to listen live radio, due to the increase of technology and other sources that are provide that people ay prefer.people are turing away from live radio as they now have an easier options such as a large base of streaming services, giving those the option to listen to their own musics and avoid unnecessary advertising and podcast that they may not want to listen too.Listening to music on your phone as became much more popular as people have spotify which has an amazing 83 million payed subscriptions, thus makes it harder for Radio stations to have a larger base of an audience.
They also have there videos and clips on youtube with different videos such as 'innuendo Bingo' using their humour to entertain those watching. They've gained 5 million subscribers this shows people want to watch their videos. Thus is a way to maintain their followers but they do this by using a different platform. These are videos that would be impossible to be done if they were on the radio.
For those who has missed the podcast then have the option to catch up within 30 days as it is saved onto their website. This is a good way to maintain or even gain listeners,as new listeners can listen to a podcast to see if they like them without having to be live.
People aged from 15 to 24 listen to the radio more than the average adult thus conveys they're their targeted audience,Radio 1 uses different techniques to maintain the audience and maybe even increase them, them having a Facebook,Twitter and Instagram page allows the younger generation to follow them on social media to see what they've been getting up to.Statistics have shown 42% of 15-24 year olds have they chosen radio station on their social media.BBC 1 they post short clips and photos onto their sites with famous idols and interviews they've done getting those who's fans of the singers or actors ect which can then influence them to decide to watch other interviews or challenges with different celebrities. The celebrity content is a great way to get publicity and a larger awareness and viewers.Furthermore, the humour on the radio is also targeted towards a younger audience having insults and jokes throughout to keep listeners entertained.
The music they provide during the day is often hip hop such as Cardi B ,Offset, Niki Minaj which target most of the younger generation. The music has American artists such as Drake and also British artist such as Little mix. This can be seen to entertain a variety of people, there large platform promotes British artists to their British audience thus maintains the contemporary music such as Fredo ,Calvin Harris,James Bay and Ed Sherran.
Chris Evans who presents BBC radio 2 breakfast show is aimed to an older audience, the statistic have show they isn't any declines. This conveys the older generation still listens to the radio, whereas, the younger generation is less consistent as they have the option to use other platforms to listen to music.

The simple PC Java game became a globally successful phenomenon across all consoles and hand-held devicesInterestingly, minecraft became popular due to word of mouth and didn't have any.
It’s simplicity of coding enabled the gaming community to modify and upgrade the game, consequently “users” were also involved in the production/evolution of the game improving the code.
The game was later sold to Microsoft for the price of $2.5 billion in 2014, some analysts have speculated the deal is designed to attract more users to Microsoft windows phone devices. They now have the loyal fan base of PC gamers,it was in there interest to invest $2.5 billion to purchase Mojang for long term revenue. The game allows cross play and multiplayer capability this is giving people the accessibility to play on PC with a friend who is playing on Xbox instead or an Android phone. The Microsoft version has allowed players to play through all consoles and handheld devices. The original game, players were able to log into minecraft without needing a copy of the game making it easier to download and play. Wherever making it more portable allows people who travel or someone who doesn't have a console with them gives them the option to play on their phones instead.Microsoft has developed the game using a more complex coding C++.In November 2014 Minecraft have marketed to a different audience again by making a Virtual reality version of minecraft in partnership with Oculus.
