Minecraft is a sandbox game,being able to design a 3d generated  world using a variety of different blocks.You can build houses,fight and craft tools.This is the second most successful video with over 121 million copies have been sold across all platforms.The swedish game developer Markus Persson created the video game which was released on the 7th May 2009.
The simple PC Java game  became a  globally successful phenomenon across all consoles and hand-held devicesInterestingly,minecraft became popular due to word of mouth and didn't have any.
It’s simplicity of coding enabled the gaming community  to modify and upgrade the game, consequently “users” were also involved in the production/evolution of the game improving the code.
The game was later sold to Microsoft for the price of $2.5 billion in 2014, some analysts have speculated the deal is designed to attract more users to Microsoft windows phone devices.They now have the loyal fan base of PC gamers,it was in there interest to invest $2.5 billion to purchase Mojang for long term revenue.The game allows cross play and multiplayer capability this is giving people the accessibility to play on PC with a friend who is playing on Xbox instead or an Android phone.The Microsoft version has allowed players to play through all consoles and handheld devices.The original game,players were able to log into minecraft without needing a copy of the game making it easier to download and play. Wherever making it more portable allows people who travel or someone who doesn't have a console with them gives them the option to play on their phones instead.
Microsoft has developed the game using a more complex coding C++.In November 2014 Minecraft have marketed to a different audience again by making a Virtual reality version of minecraft in partnership with Oculus.
Minecraft joined with the brand Lego to create a playset so gamers can physically build their virtual creations and Lego worlds,this gives both of the brands more recognition as it invites more fans to play the game as Minecraft and Lego have a big audiences so they'll be promoting one another.
Youtube has helped the marketing of the game as youtubers have made content by reviewing and creating funny videos to entertain their audience. For an example; Pewdiepie ,the largest Youtuber has over 59 million subscribers, giving minecraft more advertisement and marketing which is at no cost.Furthermore,parody contents and crafted minecraft movies has also became very popular which is free marketing for the company and increases the popularity of the game."captainSparklez" has gotten 1114 million views for "fallen kingdom" parody music video with 1 million likes,showing how people are interested in the comedy side of the game which also gives more recognition and a different fan base.This could be because its there favourite youtuber or because they enjoy video games ,or the song thats being played.Interestingly,minecraft became popular through the word of mouth as people were telling their friends about the game,which led them to pay for the game themselves and so on.
Minecraft also has affected the games evolution by being linked to non profitable projects "UNs Block by Block project,encouraging communities around the world to redesign their neighbourhoods using minecraft.A foundation which turns neglected urban places into vibrant places,improving public safety,economic opportunity,access to clean water and sustainability, which gives them recognition for a good cause which could increase their audience as people who are interested in charity or non profitable companies may play the game.
